Mannen House

323 Bushnell Avenue

When designing houses in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, the Ayres firm made consistent use of angled plans, with two masses meeting in an obtuse angle. The Mannen residence is one of the smaller of this breed but is characteristically well detailed. The arcaded verandah on the ground floor and the wood balcony wrapping around the second are the most regionally appropriate elements. The original character of façade openings to the right of the doorway has been changed significantly by the installation of fixed sheets of plate glass.
