Ike Kampmann Residence
131 E Kings Highway
The centerpiece of this home is the Richarson Romanesque arched stone entrance salvaged from an earlier Kampmann House on Avenue E, removed to make way for the Scottish Rite Cathedral. The carving is said to have been done by an unknown Italian stonecutter who strolled by as the first house was being built in 1880. Architect Henry Phelps successfully integrated the arch as a dramatic contrast to the newer unadorned limestone wall surfaces. The handling of the projecting bay on the east elevation of the house is particularly effective.
